Biometric authentication for access control & security
Biometric authentication for access control and security monitoring systems deliver increased protection and security for sensitive areas or critical infrastructure
Access control and security monitoring systems grant increased protection, convenience, and peace of mind for people, buildings, and outside locations. The touchless-authentication trend has accelerated demand for 3D authentication solutions for use in residential and public building access.
Based on all three forms of 2D and 3D sensing technologies, ams OSRAM delivers all key components for face authentication from the LED or VCSEL-based Infrared emitters for flood illumination or dot projection over to ToF sensors for distance measurement. Reference designs and software are available making the adoption of authentication process based on ams OSRAM’s key components a simple process.
Infrared illumination for industrial and home security
Infrared illumination plays a significant role in the broad field of security, ranging from in- and outdoor applications in both the fields of industrial security cameras as well as home security systems.
With a long heritage in developing infrared LEDs, ams OSRAM is the technology leader, offering several different products matching the various requirements of each application area, like power classes up to 2W per device depending on the system setup. The portfolio comes with a variety of package sizes combined with many beam angles, making it unique for all kinds of system requirements. The choice of 850nm enables a high camera sensitivity, while the 940nm options are ideal for covert observation by eliminating the red glow visible to the human eye, and 920nm is combining advantages like good sensitivity and reduced red glow effect.
Continuously expanding and improving the IR high power portfolio, ams OSRAM is prepared to stay the market leader in infrared illumination for industrial and home security. Infrared LEDs or lasers can be easily combined with ams OSRAM innovative LED Driver, which offers an integrated boost converter and high output currents.
Secure and touchless authentication by sensing elements
Biometric authentication for access control and security monitoring systems delivers increased protection and security for sensitive areas or critical infrastructure as well as providing a new level of user convenience, for example, regarding touchless entry control.
Besides emitters, sensing components play a role by performing high quality standards. Accurate distance measurements provide higher precision in autofocus for cameras. Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensors from ams OSRAM are based on proprietary SPAD (Single Photon Avalanche Photodiode) pixel design and time-to-digital converters (TDCs), which have an extremely narrow pulse width. They measure in real time the direct time-of-flight (dToF) of a 940nm VCSEL (laser) emitter’s infrared ray reflected from an object. This low-power dToF sensing technology enables host systems to accurately measure distance at very high speed. Accurate distance measurements are used in many applications, e.g. autofocus for cameras, virtual barriers and more Image Sensors are the heart of any camera-based security system.
The Mira-Family image sensors from ams OSRAM bring new performance options to designers of industrial and consumer imaging applications, offering high quantum efficiency in a small package size. A Mira product family innovation is the ability to process mono and color (RGB) and even color combined with infrared information (RGB-IR) in the same small space to add a wealth of design flexibility—and improve face recognition and object identification. Additionally, the global shutter feature enables better biometric scan quality as motion artifacts are avoided.
