Product Overview
MAX33042EAKA+ is a +5V CAN transceiver with integrated protection for industrial applications. This device has extended ±40V fault protection for equipment where overvoltage protection is required. It also incorporates high ±40kV ESD human body model (HBM) protection and an input common-mode range (CMR) of ±25V, exceeding the ISO 11898-2 CAN standard of -2V to +7V. This makes it well-suited for applications where there is moderate electrical noise that can influence the ground levels between two nodes or systems. This device operates at a high-speed CAN data rate, allowing up to 4Mbps on short-distance networks. Maximum speed on large networks may be limited by the number of nodes, the type of cabling used, stub length, and other factors. It includes a dominant timeout to prevent bus lockup caused by controller error or by a fault on the TXD input. It is used in applications such as industrial equipment, instrumentation, motor control, building automation.

- Thermal shutdown, slow slew rate to minimize EMI, low-current standby mode
- Supply voltage range from 4.5V to 5.5V, shutdown pin to save power
- Dominant supply current is 5mA typical at (TXD = SHDN = STBY = 0V, no load)
- Recessive supply current is 3mA typical at (VDD = TXD = 5.0V, STBY = SHDN = 0V, no load)
- Shutdown current is 3μA maximum at (SHDN = STBY = TXD = VDD)
- Standby supply current is 45μA typical at (STBY = TXD = VDD, TA = +25°C)
- Short-circuit current is 2mA typical at (TXD = 0V, CANH = -40V, TA = +25°C)
- Driver rise time is 5ns typical at (RCM = open, VSTBY = 0V)
- Operating temperature range from -40°C to +125°C, 8-lead SOT23 package
